Values:

Experience:

One of the most important predictors of success in medicine and surgery in particular, is the level of experience of the physician multiplied by the quality of his training. Dr. Gorelick received his initial training at one of the elite medical institutions in the country, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he worked with some of the most renown obstetricians/gynecologists and gynecologic oncologists in the United States. He then proceeded to complete his fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center, not only one of the first and oldest training programs, but the program whose traditions and reputation go back to the origins of our specialty. The list of successful graduates who became national and international leaders in the field, needs no introduction. Dr. Gorelick currently practices at the New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital where he heads Robotic Gyn and Gyn Oncologic Surgery and holds an academic appointment at the Weil Cornell School of Medicine.

Dr. Gorelick has over 15 years of clinical experience and performs over 300 surgical cases annually. Such breadth of experience gives him the expertise to address any clinical scenario no matter how complex and makes him one of the leading experts in the field. He has authored an impressive list of publications in peer-reviewed journals and has advanced the field by extensive participation in both clinical and basic research.

There is a conclusive body of scientific evidence that high volume surgeons tend to have improved patient outcomes and lower complication rates. Constant innovation, self-improvement and striving for achieve the best possible result, has transformed his many years of experience into real life success stories and excellent patient results.

Personalized approach:

As medicine is becoming more and more guideline and algorithm driven, staying true to a patient-centered and personalized approach has never been a greater priority. Dr. Gorelick and his team of experts realize that achieving the next level in clinical results as well as patient satisfaction involves going beyond the cookie-cutter one-size-fits-all attitude. Being mindful and respective of each patient’s individual preferences and goals, using their values and unique characteristics of each clinical situation to guide clinical decisions will not only result in improved results, but also a highly satisfied patient who feels listened to, respected and included as the main team member in their own care.

Every single person is unique, not just physiologically, but emotionally and mentally and therefore, each clinical scenario requires a highly personalized approach with great attention to their individual circumstances, surrounding environment, family, psychosocial and other elements which allow for a comprehensive and integrative treatment plan to be formulated and implemented.

Outcome-focused care:

The future of medicine lies with value-based or outcome-based care and Dr. Gorelick has a strong interest in applying this concept in his practice. Outcome-based paradigm refers to a system, where patient outcome is the driving factor, where statistics of patient outcomes are kept, reviewed and constantly improved by innovation, optimization of procedures and techniques. Evidence based medicine is one of the corner stones of outcome-based approach and the patient is the main beneficiary.

Dr. Gorelick’s achievement of excellent clinical results has in part been augmented by his consistent implementation of minimally invasive (including robotically enhanced) surgical techniques, tissue sparing surgical approach and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) philosophy, etc. We firmly believe that sound clinical training foundation and a high volume practice are necessary but not sufficient elements for achieving the best results possible. The final critical piece that makes the puzzle complete is as follows.

One has to constantly review what he does and how he does it, have the intellectual curiosity and motivation to ask “How can I do it better?” and only via emphasis of constant continuous improvement lies the path to the best results.
