With recent advances in genetic testing, we are now able to identify patients who are at risk of developing gynecologic and other cancers before they occur.
Certain patients that harbor familial mutations that predispose them to ovarian, uterine, fallopian tube cancer, are candidates for the so called “Risk Reducing Surgery”.
These prophylactic surgical procedures are performed by Dr. Gorelick in order to reduce or eliminate the risk of developing certain cancers in appropriately identified women.
Some examples of women that benefit from Risk Reducing Surgery include but are not limited to:
- carriers of BRCA mutations
- carriers of Lynch syndrome mutations
- the list of known mutations is constantly being expanded as new knowledge becomes available
If you or any of your family members have these mutations or have a strong family history of gynecologic cancer, please speak to Dr. Gorelick and his team of experts to formulate either a comprehensive genetic testing or a treatment plan and determine whether you are a candidate for a Risk Reducing Procedure.
